An unforced rhythm of grace

Have you ever had a thought that you would just like to get away for a moment as you stare overwhelmness in the face?

Maybe your circumstances, the challenges at work or at home or in a relationship just feel too much to bare—a place where brokenness has become a familiar companion in your life that you wish you could disregard but you struggle to find your way without it.

Your wholeness will never be found in your own ability but in the unity you get to enjoy with Jesus in His presence. God knows your struggles and your pains, not one of them surprises Him but He wants you to trust Him with your heart. Your whole heart and not only the pieces that you believe is worthy of His attention. He is your place of rest and refreshment where your healing can take place, your soul can have space to breathe, your strength is renewed and new vision and hope can be infused into your heart and mind that is aligned with God’s purpose for your life.

We have all faced those moments where we feel defeated and where everything feels too much to handle. We may even consider escape routes but these moments should not lead to an action but instead bring us to a standstill. A place to surrender and completely lose control to God. As long as we try and cope on our own, we will fail, but when we choose to surrender and rest in God’s grace we find a new rhythm—God’s unforced rhythm of grace.

Matthew 11:28-30 says it so profoundly:

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythm of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. (MSG)

It is a rhythm where we choose God’s peace in our hearts and minds above the approval of people. A place where we allow God to lead and we follow. It is no longer a place where what we want matters but it becomes all about what God wants. We may need to cut some habits and people from our lives to make more space for God to breathe through us.

So, in your moment of overwhelmness, take a breath and be quiet. Allow God to breathe through you and listen to the unforced rhythm of grace He may be beating against your heart.
