Deuteronomy 7:13 “He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your herd and the young of your flock, in the land which He swore to your forefathers to give to you.“ (NASB)
God knows the recipe to our happiness and bearing fruit through our lives. We often think our fruitfulness depends on our good works, but when we look at the promises from God it is clear that He will bless us. We receive it from Him through faith in Him.
Every single blessing from God has its origin in a promise God spoke into the lives of His children. We get access to all our promises through Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:20). Throughout the Bible there are many promises and they do not deal with a single aspect of our lives, but with everything—provision, protection, abundance, healing, fruitfulness, wisdom, guidance, greatness, influence, victory, blessings and many more.
If we look at one of God’s promises to Abraham that his descendants will multiply like the stars in the heaven and as the sand on the seashores, it is important to note that the promise was spoken over Abraham when nothing was visible in the physical realm. All the facts in the natural indicated that both Abraham and Sarah are passed the child-bearing age and other than God’s promise, there was no sign that they would become parents. Abraham chose not to look at the facts and through faith received his promise of fruitfulness from God. It is a promise that can bring hope in so many barren situations we have in our own lives and because God is still the same today as He was in the Bible, we can have faith that He will do the same for us.
When we look at God’s promise to Abraham about his descendants, we have the same promise through faith (Galatians 3:9, 29). Barrenness is not God’s heart for His children as He wants us to be fruitful and multiply. God’s promises might seem overwhelming at times, but when we look beyond our own insecurities and doubts and hold on to our faith that God is faithful, we will be amazed. Sarah was also overwhelmed by the possibility of becoming a mother, but she did not focus on her own doubts, instead she trusted in God and His faithfulness and despite her own shortcomings, she bore a child at the age of 90.
Maybe you have words spoken over your life that you will never bore a child or that you will never be able to bear fruit in a certain area of your life. Maybe you have a limitation in your life that might make a promise of God seem impossible to come true for you. You have a choice whether you are going to accept those words or limitation over your life or whether you are going to hold on to God’s promises for you.
There is no condemnation for us where we suffer barrenness in an area, but our hope remains in God’s promise that there will be no barrenness among us. When we receive that by faith, there is nothing that can stop God’s Word from prevailing through us.
The promise of fruitfulness is available for any area where we suffer lack. When we position ourselves in Christ, He multiplies our impact and makes us fruitful beyond anything our own efforts could ever obtain for us.
