I have often made the mistake of thinking that God is too busy taking care of the big things in life to be interested in the small things that trouble me. I have placed everything in my life in either a “Big” or “Small” category. I can go and ask God to help me with the big things but the small things were for my own sorting out.
A mistake.
I forgot the most important part that God is not only Almighty God but also my Heavenly Father. He is there for me in everything I do and with me every step I take. He never leaves me nor forsakes me (Hebrews 13:5-6), whether I lie down at home reading a book or when I have to undergo a big operation, it is all the same to God.
As human beings we might be seeing some things as big and others as small, but to God all things are the same. Whether it is a health issue or whether it is our hair, He pays attention to everything and wants to help us.
It is different for God than for us. The more difficult the task ahead of us, the more effort and strain it takes from us, but with God, the more difficult it seems, the less effort it takes for Him. We can only look at the example of Jesus feeding thousands with loaves of bread and fish. In Matthew 14 we read that Jesus fed five thousand with five loaves of bread and two fishes while in Matthew 15 He fed four thousand with seven loaves of bread and a few fishes. One would think that Jesus needed more resources for more people, but no, when there were more men, Jesus used less loaves of bread and fishes to satisfy their hunger. When we put God in a box by thinking that He is available to only deal with the big things, we are limiting Him.
In Luke 8 we read about Jesus who was on His way to Jairus’ house to heal his dying daughter. While Jesus was on His way to this very urgent situation, a woman who was bleeding for twelve years came to Him to be healed. Now, even though one would think Jesus should not tarry and hurry to the dying girl, He stopped and first spent time with the woman and healed her because she was just as important to Him as the dying girl. There is no sickness or condition greater to Jesus than any other. They are all the same in His eyes and His only purpose is to bring healing and restoration. Only allow Him and believe.
When something troubles us, God wants to help us.
Luke 12:7 says “And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” (NLT)
If God knows the number of hairs on our heads, there is no detail or symptom in our lives that escapes His eyes. If the number of hairs on our heads are important to Him, imagine how important would be a concern of our hearts for Him to take care of? Allow God to be the loving and compassionate Father He wants to be in everything we do every day.
When we are having a bad hair day, God as our Father wants to help us. If we need someone to assist us with something and we have no idea where to find that person, God wants to send us someone. When we are sick, whether it is suffering from a headache or a life threatening disease, God is our Healer and wants to take our sickness away. Even when we have to make an important phone call, attend a meeting or take part in an event, God is right there next to us breathing courage, wisdom and strength into us. We should just see it and become aware of it every moment of the day.
Every time something troubles us or when we need help, let’s make a choice to speak to God first. He is already there in our situation and He already knows every solution to all our problems, we should just ask. We have nothing to lose but everything to gain.
Take God out of His box and give Him everything, big or small, He wants it all!
