I am going to start with this one thought: “You are still here!” and leave it with you for now.

We have all been created with a deep desire to matter. We want to feel like we matter and that our birth was not an accident but that we are here to serve a purpose. So, do you serve a purpose?

In the greater scheme of your life, you have been created to serve a holy calling:

“So brethren, consecrated and set apart for God, who share in the heavenly calling,…” (Hebrews 3:1 AMPC)

In the picture of God’s puzzle for His children, you serve a definitive purpose for the unique piece that you are in His puzzle. Your life is about perfecting that divine piece to fit into His greater picture. Your heavenly calling, the purpose for which you are on earth is not a one day event or even seasonal, but it is a “one day at a time” process and when God calls you back home and you look back, you will see it clearly. For some it may be a very clear purpose and they start serving it from a very young age, but for the most of us, we serve it one day at a time, from one season to the next until God completed His good work in us. So yes, whether you realised it or not, whether you see it or not, from God’s perspective, you are serving a purpose.

The purpose that God has for your life is not merely mediocre, but entails good plans that will prosper you and that will bring hope and not sorrow (Jeremiah 29:11).

Apart from the overall purpose that God has for our lives, we are also crafting at it one day at a time. Every day that you wake up because of the God-inspired breath that is breathed through your being, you are busy working towards your ultimate purpose. Do you perceive each day in that light? If not, why don’t you start doing it from now on?

Every day is a day of you serving your purpose. You do not have to have a well-known ministry or changing hundreds of lives a day to be serving a purpose, but wherever you find yourself, whether at home, at work, with your family or whoever or whatever God brings across your path, deal with them in serving His purpose and your impact starts right there. And that is good enough.

God does not look at numbers to determine whether we are serving a purpose. He looks at our hearts and our obedience on the little tasks He sends across our paths every day to serve His kingdom. Did you realise that?

I would like to challenge you to start looking at each day as a day to impact for God. It may be through a serving hand, a smile, and encouraging word or even through a waiting period but start seeing each day as a day that you are busy crafting away at the greater purpose God has for you. Even though you may not be able to see any evidence thereof at the moment, do not stop. Take it one day at a time. It is never too late to begin, whether you are still at the beginning of your career or building a family or whether you have been around and are at a time where you begin to look back to see what you have been building. Just do it.

That brings us back to the fact that you are still here. God is not done with you and He is still busy serving His purpose through you. You matter to Him in a way you may never understand and He cannot bear the thought of you feeling worthless, as in His eyes you have so much worth. His thoughts about you is about impact, but not just any kind of impact, but impact for His kingdom – one day, one person and one act at a time.

If you have been feeling a little worthless or unappreciated lately, I pray that God will fill you with a fresh knowing that you matter and that every day you are serving His purpose wherever you are and in the smallest things that you do.
