Have you found that moment today where heaven and earth collide? That moment where the extra ordinary particles of heaven meet the ordinary, everyday substances of earth and transform something, someone or a circumstance into something spectacular, something beautiful and something worth remembering.
It happens all around us every day, but have you noticed it?
We saw this when Mary conceived a baby boy not in the ordinary way but through the power of the Holy Spirit. A mere fallible human being carrying the Savior of the world as result of the divine touch of God’s hand.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place under these circumstances: When His mother Mary had been promised in marriage to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be pregnant [through the power] of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:18 AMPC)
We see many more of this in the Bible and one example would be where Jesus performed miracles and brought divine healing to the sick. In John 9 we read about Jesus who healed a blind man:
When He had said this, He spat on the ground and made clay (mud) with His saliva, and He spread it [as ointment] on the man’s eyes. And He said to him, Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam–which means Sent. So he went and washed, and came back seeing. (John 9:6-7 AMPC)
Heaven and earth collided as Jesus took ordinary elements as His saliva and ground, made mud and mixed it with His divinity and love and restored a blind man’s sight. An extra-ordinary moment in the midst of an ordinary day that brought everlasting impact.
When we think about every breath we take and how the very first one come about when God created Adam in the Garden of Eden. We often take it for granted and expect every breath to come automatically, but stop for a moment and think about it. Man’s first breath of life came when God breathed His breath of life into man’s mortal body and it brought him to life. Today, we are still continuing on the very same principle as we take each breath.
We further see splendid examples of heaven and earth meeting when we look at the beauty of nature when the sun sets across the horizon—a display of God’s artwork as the colors of orange, gold and yellow are painted across the sky. A picture that speaks of beauty and splendor and if that is what God does to the sky what does it say about His work through us. The beauty and glory He displays through us as the prime of His creation is so much more, do you see it?
There is another nugget of gold hidden in a sunset which tells us that there is beauty and hope in spite of the approaching darkness. It is not the darkness that takes over the light but the light that surrounds the darkness on every side as the sun sets and rises again. When it is dark it does not mean the light is absent, it is merely hiding, waiting for its appointed time to take its place again.
The light is there when the darkness approaches and it is still there when the darkness disappears. It never left, it just became less visible. It may seem to be gone for a while because of the angle we are looking at it and the limited vision we may have, but none of that can stop the light from shining again.
It is the same if we look for Jesus. When things seem ordinary or dark, we may not always be aware of His presence but He is there. Ready to let His mighty power be displayed in and through your life as He overcomes our ordinary circumstances with His extra-ordinary outcomes.
Every day, everywhere, there are opportunities to orchestrate a symphony between heaven and earth as we allow ourselves to take the ordinary around us and mix it with the divine Hope and Presence of Christ we have inside us to bring to light something new, something beautiful and precious in the eyes of God and for the awe of man.
You may find this in someone’s smile at an appointed time. You may find this in an answer you have been waiting for, for a long time. You may find it in the opening of a door which you never thought possible.
By looking for God’s extra-ordinary hand in our everyday lives, we see His glory as the divine and ordinary meet.
