Everyone wants to feel like they matter in life.
Me too. I do not only want to be a by passer and when my life has come to an end, it had no real impact. For as long as I am here I want to be and do what I was sent to do by God, which brought me to the question, “What is my calling?”
It is a big question many of us ask ourselves as we feel drawn by God to do something special and significant for Him through our lives. Many may feel like their calling should be something they have all answer to and in which they have all the abilities required. But I would like to change it up a little and instead of asking you, “What is your calling?” ask you, “Who is your calling?”
You are not called to a specific position at work, or to manage a certain lifestyle, or to wear a title or do a project. You are called to Jesus!
It is a calling where you do not need to have all the answers and abilities, because Jesus has them all. We see the perfect example in the Bible of what happens when people are called? Jesus called many during His time on earth and He never gave them a detailed description of what they can expect or about what their calling entail. He did not call them to a project or a position but to follow Him.
Matthew 4:19: “Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” (NLT)
John 1:43: “The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Come, follow me.” (NLT)
John 12:26: “Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.” (NLT)
Just like His disciples in the Bible, we are called into a holy calling:
“Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider…Christ Jesus,” (NKJV)
Your calling is Jesus. to consider Him and to follow Him.
Jesus does not call us and expects us to know all the answers and do be able to decipher every thought or feeling we have about our calling. He merely expects us to take that first brave step and follow Him. As you follow Him and spend time with Him, He will reveal His plans in greater detail as His timing for each of them arrive. You do not need to know everything now, when the appointed time for each plan comes around, you will know what Jesus expects of you and He will give you the strength, words and ability to do what you are called for.
For now, just follow Jesus—in His Word, through payer, worship and listening to the promptings of His Holy Spirit inside you.
