I was born with a disability on my left hand. I only have a pinkie and a thumb. My disability did not escape the eyes of God. Something was taken away from me, but God gave me so many blessings in my life that it completely overshadowed the potential devastation of my disability. He came and took something that was meant to harm me and turned it around for His glory and my best interest.

I was mocked throughout my childhood and never really fitted in amongst my peers, but it led me to depend and find comfort in the One that never fails me, Jesus Christ. People used my shortcomings to intimidate me, but the truth that I was perfect in God’s eyes, helped me to accept myself for who I am.

I started playing tennis at the age of four, and exceeded all expectations. My parents helped me to live with a grateful heart and not to focus on what I lacked. At the age of 17, I was fortunate to be accepted into the main draw at Junior Wimbledon. As it worked out, I had to walk away from tennis after numerous operations, feeling empty. I started training for marathons. I thought that God’s plan for my life involved sport, but it was during my second Comrades (an 89km race) at the age of 26, only 2km before the finish line that I collapsed as a result of a congenital heart disease I was born with.

God turned a life threatening moment around for His glory. He used it to put me in the shoes He prepared for the walk He planned for me. I received a second chance at life by His grace. I always tried to make God part of my plans, but I realised it was time to make myself part of His plans for my life. I have adjusted my life to God’s rhythm for me and soon thereafter God blessed me with my husband, Daniël, who I believe was handpicked by God to walk by my side every step of the way. God blessed us with two beautiful daughters, Nerine and Mirra who are a living example of God’s grace to us.

Everyone has a battle to fight, but the one thing that kept me going was my faith in God. I always knew that I can trust in Him and He will never leave me, no matter how hard and difficult my life can get. He never allows any trial to cross my path without providing an outcome. I have experienced that God has divine healing in store for everyone. Once I rested in His presence He could do His perfect work in me. I realised it is not about all the things that I can do with what I have, but how much Jesus did for me on the cross. It is the same Grace that is available to everyone, but each of us has to make the choice to allow it to flow through our lives.

For a long time God’s truths were available to me, but I could not see it. He finally opened my eyes to His grace through the blessing I received from Him through Daniel. God has been using him in amazing ways to reveal to me the grace there is for me in Jesus’ hand; I merely have to receive it from Him. Thank you Jesus!
