We all face different fears and challenges on a daily basis. There may be even times when it influences us to such an extent that it impacts the decision we make. Have you ever found yourself in such a position where a fear of danger caused you to make a decision you would not have made otherwise?
Psalm 91 gives us the assurance that we have a divine promise of security as a child of God. Dark circumstances may be looming in the distance, but it has no power over us as we are possessing the undeniable Light of Christ on the inside. As children of God, we have a secret place where nothing and no-one can cause us lasting pain. When we are walking close to God and find our shelter with Him, we can rest under His divine wing of protection. When we rest in Jesus, He promises that “He will save us from the fowler’s snare and from deadly pestilence.” (Psalm 91:3)
God does not want us to be sick and always under attack as that is not the life Christ died for us to have. Jesus defeated all disease and lack on the cross and therefore we can walk in His abundance today. The enemy can attempt to hurt us, but he has no power over us in Christ. By standing in faith in the shelter we have in Jesus’ shadow, no harm can come near us. It does not mean that we will not face difficult situations because for as long as we are on this earth we will face storms, but we can have the assurance and peace that Jesus has already overcome all of it for us.
God says that “He will cover you with His feathers and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” (Psalm 91:4) Do you note that it is not about how much good you are doing before God will protect you, but all about what He will do for you? Everything that you needed to do to qualify for God’s protection has already been done by Jesus on the cross. All we have left to do is to stand in faith in the promise of protection we have in Christ and He will provide it.
As you walk in God’s divine protection, you will see in this world that “a thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand but it will not come near you.” (Psalm 91:7) God’s goodness, love and grace form a shield around us against any evil that may have been intended for us. Where God’s love is, no evil can stand. We can take our position of rest in Jesus as He already obtained the victory for us. Psalm 91:9-10 remind us again that if we make God our dwelling place, no harm will befall us nor will any disaster come near us, because God promises that “He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” (Psalm 91:10-11)
God is so merciful that He knows we will still sin in this world and He promises to not only guard us when we are good, but in all our ways. We are more important to God than what we could ever imagine. He commands His angels to protect us because He cares for us. Under His protection all dangers are under our feet.
By loving God and acknowledging His name is enough for Him to rescue and protect us. He promise us that when we call upon His name, He will answer us. He will be with us in trouble and He will deliver us and honor us. God wants to help us in our times of need and He does not do so out of obligation, but out of His love for us.
God’s promise of protection does not stop at our safety, it continues to say that “with long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.” (Psalm 91:16) God wants us to enjoy a long and healthy life. He wants to satisfy us with His goodness so that we do not live in sickness and lack. He also wants to show us Jesus. The world “salvation” in verse 16 refers to Jesus and God wants us to have a life filled with the presence of Jesus. God invites us to come closer and to find Jesus in every word we read in the Bible and in every situation we face today and the more we look for Him, the more we will see Him.
