In one of my recent posts, Do You Serve a Purpose? we established that we all, in our own unique way, serve a purpose in God’s bigger picture and every day we are crafting away at our purpose. But have you find yourself asking, “Why am I here?” Maybe you asked, “What am I living for?” Is it possible that some of us are merely existing, drifting from one day to the next?
No matter in which category you find yourself, one truth remains, you, like me, have one significant call from God – to live with this one ultimate goal in mind!
“… to live is Christ…” (Philippians 1:21)
God initially created everything with one goal in mind and that was to worship Him. But Lucifer, as His most glorious angel allowed pride to get the better of him and instead of fulfilling his main purpose of worshipping God, he desired to be worshipped in God’s place. So instead of living the ultimate life in God’s presence, he destined himself to defeat.
When God created man, He still had the same goal in mind for us, to worship Him. When God hit Egypt with the ten plagues, He instructed Moses and Aaron with the announcement of every plague to Pharaoh to “tell him: GOD’s Message: Release my people so they can worship me.” (Exodus 8:1 MSG). Paul understood this higher purpose in life as he confirmed that his aim in life was to magnify Jesus – both in his body and in his death (Phil. 1:20). Everything else in his life was controlled and guided by this one ultimate goal God had for man, including Paul, to magnify God in everything.
What is the value of having such a high purpose:
- It gives us a purpose for each day.
- It provides excitement as the journey with Christ is full of surprises.
- It helps us to determine our priorities and to understand what is important and eliminate any pursuits of lesser importance. If what we do, do not magnify God, there is no reason doing it.
- It promotes a life of complete trust and dependance on God as we realise we are nothing without Him and the only way we can truly enjoy peace and prosper is by His hand.
- It is a life where we walk hand in hand with the Holy Spirit for His guidance.
We know that God only has good plans for our lives (Jeremiah 29:11) and everything good He began in us, He will complete (Philippians 1:6). As we walk our daily lives, we ought to make Jesus our aim for each day. For some, to live means knowledge, to others it means sports, or wealth or power or pleasure, but if we wish to live on the highest plane God destined for our lives, God gave us the way to it: to make Jesus our ultimate and only goal.
How do we do this?
Faith-based hope: We choose to have hope based on our faith in Jesus. Our circumstances should not steal our hope. Because we know that Jesus is in control and declare Him as the Lord over our lives, we can have hope.
Intimate relationship: A relationship is based on communication and therefore we can talk to God through our prayers anytime in any place. As we wander with Him in close fellowship and commune with Him, we are giving Jesus the time and place He deserves.
Partnership with the Holy Spirit: As we understand the importance of the Holy Spirit’s role in our lives and co-operate with Him in obedience, we are magnifying Jesus as we acknowledge that we know best through His guidance and our own efforts remain limited unless it is inspired through Him.
Serve: Like Jesus came to serve, so we should serve Him and His purpose. The form and shape of our serving might differ, but as we serve Jesus and through His guidance, man, our lives speak of His place in it.
You have a high purpose. If you let Jesus have the place that belongs to Him in your heart and life, you will discover the true joy and freedom embedded in His high purpose. Accept Him as the Lord over every single aspect of your life and He will amaze you.
